ACAP stands for the Accounting Career Awareness Program. The mission
of ACAP is to recruit target minority youths and provide educational enrichment experiences and practical help they need to
prepare for higher education and careers in the field of accounting or business related areas. This is accomplished
with the following objectives: - Teach students about the skillsets relevant to the field
of business.
- Inform students about opportunities in business professions.
- Provide students with minority
role models in the business profession.
- Involve Puget Sound area businesses, career guidance counselors and parents
in ACAP through contributions and volunteer time.
- Provide students internships at Puget Sound businesses that
will help them get meaningful job experience.
ACAP's flagship annual program is our Summer Residency Program. This is a one-week
program for qualified Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors in high school. This motivational and educational program is held
each year at the University of Washington Foster School of Business. It introduces the students to accounting,
finance, economics and management through a customized curriculum involving UW faculty and guest lecturers from the accounting
& business communities. Students selected for the residency week receive scholarships covering the total cost of
tuition, room and board, books, supplies, entertainment, and transportation. This program has been held annually since
1982.
