Most of ACAP's efforts are focused on our Summer Residency Program.
This is a one-week program for qualified Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors in high school. This motivational and educational
program is held each year at the University of Washington School of Business. It introduces the students to accounting,
finance, economics and management through a customized curriculum involving UW faculty and guest lecturers from the business
community. Students selected for the residency week receive scholarships covering the total cost of tuition, room and
board, books, supplies, entertainment, and transportation. This program has been held annually since 1982. The
residency week for the current year is scheduled to be from August 10-15, 2008.
The agenda below includes a brief overview of the residency experince. A
more detailed timed agenda will be provided at a later date.
- Various field trips including a visit to Ron
Sims' office; the court house; Safeco
field
Various presentations including etiquette and dressing for success
Workshops on college
admissions and financial aid processing
Tours of local accounting firms and their clients
Various social activities including bowling,
outdoor BBQ, basketball, volleyball and more!
A closing banquet for the students to celebrate the week with participation
by parents, sponsors, and board members.
The program includes eight full time counselors that stay with the students during the residency program. They provide
supervision as well as mentoring. Many of the counselors are ACAP alumni that have stayed connected to the program and want to ensure that other
young people experience the benefits of ACAP.
We have a variety of speakers planned for this year's program. More information about these presentations
will be available in the coming months.
